Layup Lines: Sky own Saturday

Plus, Bueckers vs. Clark for the first time as pros today.

Happy Sunday and welcome back to Layup Lines, your quick recap of what’s going on in the WNBA.

  • We went 1-1 on our bets yesterday with the Sky pulling off a huge upset of the Lynx at home and the Valkyries not being able to hold off A’ja Wilson and the Aces despite her wrist injury.

This 489 word newsletter should take about 2 minutes to read.

🏀 Fun Saturday of hoops

  • In the other game, Golden State and Vegas went back and forth all afternoon to combine for 206 points. Six Valks scored in double digits but couldn’t match A’ja’s 34 points and 16 rebounds or Jackie Young’s 30.

    • That was a hugely important home win for Vegas to stop the bleeding and try and capture some momentum back before the All-Star break.

📺 Today’s games

  • We’re 55-51 this season and have $995 remaining of our initial $1,000 budget to wager.

  • There are four games today — Dallas @ Indiana (1:00pm ET, ABC), Atlanta @ New York (3:00pm), Connecticut @ Los Angeles (6:00pm) and Washington @ Seattle (6:00pm). Let’s have a Sunday!

    • This is easily the worst stretch of Caitlin Clark’s short WNBA career, and while I think she turns it around today against Dallas’ terrible defense, this is so many points for two inconsistent teams.

      • Bet: Dallas / Indiana under 175, $50 to win $45.

    • Two high-volume shooting teams with something to prove should lead to a lot of threes and points.

      • Bet: Atlanta / New York over 166.5, $50 to win $44.

    • Nobody should be double digit point underdogs against the Sparks, who haven’t covered a spread this large since early June.

      • Bet: Connecticut +11.5, $50 to win $45.

    • The Mystics have great post players and solid guards, but not anyone who matches up well against Seattle’s Gabby Williams.

      • Bet: Gabby Williams over 13.5 points scored, $50 to win $43.

Thanks Claude. Full spreadsheet.
