Layup Lines: Loaded Sunday slate

Four intriguing matchups, including a Jewell Loyd revenge game.

Happy Sunday and welcome back to Layup Lines, your quick recap of what’s going on in the WNBA. We were a couple Liberty points away from a great day yesterday, but finished 1-2 after they beat the Fever without covering (and after the Wings and Dream healthily missed their over).

  •  Is it killing me to keep giving out 1-1 and 1-2 days? Yes it is. Do the numbers care about my feelings? No they do not.

Programming note: The league is off tomorrow, so we will be back in your inbox on Tuesday. Happy Memorial Day!

Bets of the day

  • We’re 8-12 this season and have $786 of our initial $1,000 remaining to wager.

  • There are four games today, all on League Pass — Connecticut @ Atlanta (3pm ET), Chicago @ Los Angeles (6pm), Washington @ Phoenix (6pm) and Las Vegas @ Seattle (6pm).

    • The Sky have lost their two games this year by 35 and 25 points but are only +5.5 today, so we’re staying away from that fishy line and taking the other games.

    • The Mystics and Mercury are both dealing with backcourt injuries and should have trouble getting offense initiated.

      • Bet: Washington / Phoenix under 159.5 points scored, $50 to win $46.

    • The Dream are scoring at a much higher pace than the Sun, but are also playing their fourth game in six days.

      • Bet: Connecticut / Atlanta under 158 points scored, $50 to win $44.

    • The Storm haven’t played a top 5 team yet this season and have to face former star Jewell Loyd for the first time tonight. If there’s any team in the league that will take that personally, it’s the Aces.

      • Bet: Las Vegas -5.5 @ Seattle, $50 to win $44.

Take of the day

  • Can someone explain why the league decided to not schedule any games on Memorial Day? There are four today, none of which are on national TV, and then none tomorrow. Other pro sports leagues actively try and own holiday programming and it feels like an unforced error to just have tomorrow entirely off.

  • The other major holiday opportunity for the WNBA is Fourth of July. I am already pre-complaining about those scheduling decisions — no games from June 30 - July 2, five games on July 3 and then off entirely on July 4. Make it make sense.

Card of the day

Clark will always get the most attention on the Fever, but Aliyah Boston is averaging almost 19 points and 11 rebounds per game this season.
