Layup Lines: Caitlin Clark on ABC

The superstar returns to action in one of three WNBA games today.

Happy Saturday morning and welcome back to Layup Lines, your quick recap of what’s going on in the WNBA. We’ve got a great day of basketball ahead of us!

This 435 word newsletter should take less than 2 minutes to read.

Today’s games

There are three games today — Los Angeles @ Minnesota (1pm ET, CBS), New York @ Indiana (3pm, ABC / ESPN) and Seattle @ Golden State (8:30pm, League Pass). After a week of not avoiding obvious NBA Finals scheduling conflicts, it’s nice to have the league’s two best teams, and the return of Caitlin Clark, on national TV.

  • The Lynx are saddled with a lot of points against the Sparks, but are also coming off their first loss of the season and will bring the energy at home.

    • Bet: Lynx -10, $50 to win $44.

  • The best game of the day should be the Liberty trying to become just the fourth team in WNBA history to start a season 10-0. However, between the Pacers in the finals and Clark’s return from a quad injury, there’s a chance the roof comes off Gainbridge Fieldhouse today. I’m torn on the result here, but with DeWanna Bonner out for Indiana and the Liberty frontcourt thin with injuries and EuroBasket obligations, I lean toward lots of points.

    • Bet: New York / Indiana over 172.5 total points scored, $50 to win $44.

  • I’m growing quite fond of the Valkyries, but they’re missing four main contributors due to injuries and EuroBasket. The only chance they have to keep this close is to play as slow as possible.

    • Bet: Golden State / Seattle under 155.5 total points scored, $50 to win $45.

No, YOU waited to package these season results into a spreadsheet until you were above .500. Not me. I am confident.

Good reads from around the league

Graphic of the day

Even against Dallas, this is a crazy stat line for Rhyne Howard.
